Hi,my name is Robin, I was newly single after being married for 25 years,I didn't know how to open up to the dateing scene.I was reluctant to join the dateing sites, but i tried anyway.I got alot of flirts, some interesting some scary.I learned real quick to fallow my heart.I was very nervouse being 42,and a mom of 4 young kids who would be interested!I was surprized at how many men were.I've met a couple of guys and they were all very nice,This last guy is very special! We would never had met if we wouldn't have joined Yahoo Personals even though we only lived 32 miles apart.I don't know how serious this relationship will go,but I'm hopeing it will last for a very long time!People tell him he's crazy to get involved with a woman with 4 young kids, and I tell him the same thing. He is the best thing to happen to my girls and I.He says he is happy and I know my girls and I are.Sometimes you just need to follw your heart and let your guard down! I don't know how to act single, that wasn't me.Talking on line got me to open up a bit more than i could in person and i'm glad i joined Yahoo Personals! Thanks again Yahoo. Robin

I have had a subscription on Yahoo! Personals off and on for about 3 years. I had many ok dates, a few not so ok, and one relationship. I am a "plus size" gal and got rejected by all sorts of profiles from men with no hair and double chins who felt they could do better. I made a couple really good male friends out of the experience, but overall, I'd make a conservative guess that at least 75% of the men were very married, and those that I reported to Yahoo! were never removed and still active on the site. It's too bad, because it could be a great way to meet singles when the "at work" option simply doesn't exist.

I have to say I am so happy for the on line dating service. It was a great way to meet many people and have fun at the same time. I responded to all who responded to me and I did not go "just on a picture". Had I done that, (picture only) I would have never met my future husband. His picture did not do him justice and I liked his profile so we met, dated a year and we are getting married this March '07. He is the sexiest, cutest, kindest, man I have ever met. He is always thinking of me and my feelings. This is a second marriage for both of us and we both did not want to do "the bar scene". We are very happy. I would have never have met him had I not signed up for on line dating. I am grateful.

Visit Yahoo! Personals

I read through some of these posts and decided to write, especially when there were comments questioning the authenticity of the postings.

I became a member of the Yahoo Personals site back in August 2005. I was hesitant to put a picture up, and in fact, never did. The drawback to that is that I NEVER received even one inquiry letter. (Which is to be expected, I suppose. The old adage "a picture is worth a thousands words" is really true in the on-line world.)

I DID write several letters and sent them off with a promise of a picture sent separately. My experiences were interesting. I didn't receive a reply from most of the men. I corresponded with a couple of persons for a few weeks and eventually moved up to phone calls. I had a date with one of them who lived 4 hours from my home. We met half-way and had a really nice date, but the "chemistry" wasn't there for him (regarding me) and that cooled pretty quickly.

The "Icebreaker" feature was annoying. I understand the premise of a quick way to flirt and possibly connect, but it's also used by those who aren't members yet. Therefore, someone might send an Icebreaker, "I like your profile!" and then the communication stops because they have no way to correspond.

Fast forward a few months.

On January 19 (2006), I was sitting at the computer in the hotel lobby where I was staying while on a business trip and browsed Yahoo Personals yet again. I changed the search paramaters a bit to be a little more detailed about what I was looking for. A personal relationship with God was important, as well as a good sense of humor, interest in lots of outdoor activities, etc.

Having over 1,000 guys who "matched" my search criteria was daunting, but exciting- almost a "man smorgasbord" as I told one of my friends later.

One of the profilees caught my eye, not only because he was cute (yes, HE had a picture!) :) and wrote well, but because there was also a commitment to "write a reply to anyone who sends a note." Based on that promise, it was easy to craft a (somewhat):) witty flirtatious missive and I eagerly waited the promised message.

Two days later, I received a long, funny, intelligent and informative (wow!) letter in my mailbox. A flurry of notes and a few hours-long phone calls later, and Jim arrived in my little rural town after traveling 7 hours away from his urban dwelling.

It's a year later. We got engaged in August, married in a wonderful intimate ceremony at a B&B in Maine, honeymooned on the East Coast, and are now getting settled into our life between two states, two jobs, three teenagers, four properties (and a partridge in a pear tree.) :)

Jim travels to my town every other Friday, doing business on his cell phone as he drives, then spends a week with me. On the following Friday, he travels back to his (other) home in Chicago, where he spends the week with his two children. Every couple of months or so, I travel to see him and the arrangements is reversed.

The relationship is loving, fun, exciting, fulfilling and lots of work. :)People are amazed that we are so compatible and always want to know how we met.

Jim agrees that it seems to be a bit more difficult for men. He has said that it was rare to ever get an unsolicited letter from a female, and didn't get many replies when HE would send a note.

Yahoo Personals has many positive features- a good profile area, space for lots of pictures, excellent search parameters (including distance and interests), good tech support and is relatively inexpensive.

Take a chance! There's really nothing to lose.

An interesting note: In his profile, I didn't "fit" Jim's requirements in height (I was 3 inches taller than he "wanted"); distance (I was 350 miles further than his preference as he had never envisioned a long distance relationship); body type (I'm not "slender") and probably several others. I wrote anyway. Being a bit open minded on both of our sides at the onset was key to our meeting.

I am recently divorced at the age of 48. I have tried online dating sites(Yahoo Personals) and found that they are a poor way to meet someone if you really want a relationship. They are especially poor for men. The ratio of men to women is usually 3 to 1 or even higher. This imbalance creates an unnatural dating enviroment. The women on the site are getting lots of attention and soon only look to date "up" to men who would not normally give them a second look. Men soon realize that they can't get noticed in the crowd and either give up or look to date "down" for sexual purposes. The men end up thinking that the women are ultra picky prima donnas and the women think the men are all a bunch of users in it for sexual adventure. I recommend you look around your work place for an available date. Huge numbers of people are now finding their romantic partners at work. Unfortunately, this option is not open to me because I am a boss and would be frowned upon for dating someone who works for me. However, I see other people at my company getting together regularly. So, look around that office or the shop floor and evaluate if there are any possibilities. I guess I will be wandering the produce aisle at the local grocery. LOL

P.S. Don't believe this recent rash of 4 star fluff ratings.I suspect they are persons with a YP financial relationship. Read some of the older posts and you will get a better picture of what the general opinion really is.

I was living in Chicago and was doing the dating thing only from the personals. I was thinking of re-locating to New Orleans so I changed my profile from Chicago to New Orleans area just to see what was out there. Just about when I was to give up Rebecca sent me a simple message. We started chatting, then got up to the phone calls. Soon I made a trip to Louisiana to meet her. We had so much in common. Soon she came up to see me. Next thing I know I move to to Baton Rouge, bought a home together and started our own construction business. I know a few people in my family who have had sucess also. We both felt comfortable and safe on line. Now the sky is the limit. Were very happy and owe 100% of it to you guys, thanks a million.

I had never used a personal site before but my busy work schedule suggested I try it. I was never really into the bar scene but I wanted to meet people. I decided to give Yahoo Personals a shot. At first I had several months without success. I was getting frustrated and thought that I had wasted my money. That is when I found Jenn. She was perfect for me. We spoke often via e-mail and eventually over the phone. We decided to meet in person for coffee and it was love at first sight. Everything seemed to click and go perfect. Jenn and I are now engaged and we are expecting a baby in July 2007. Thanks Yahoo Personals, Ben
