If Yahoo personals can drum up such high ratings then match.com deserves about 5 1/2 stars. What's up with all the positive reviews of Yahoo personals? The person writing the 5-star Yahoo reviews has to be an employee of Yahoo, because they've allowed themselves to be effected by the negative reviews of YP.
Allow me to make one thing clear, I've studied Internet dating for the last 3 years, and I can tell you YP isn't exactly the best site out there. It seems the quality of the YP site is inferior to that of match.com for the reasons of:
1. There are more Quality members on match.com than on YP.
2. The members search engine on YP is deceptive. If you run a search on YP you find duplicate listings of profiles and profiles that have been inactive for several months. This important part of the YP site is poorly managed.
3. The user interface on YP is hard to use and it does strain my eyes. The reason it strains my eyes is because they use a white background and light blue text.
4. It's way easier to search for members on match.com than on YP, and match.com has far more searching options than YP does.
I've wrote YP and told them to consider making changes. The only change they've made is by making the view profile pictures easier to use. Other than that, Yahoo only seems interested in milking the cow for what it's worth when it comes to it's YP. They just haven't put much effort into improving the site. I really think that if they made the site more functional and visual appealing they could attract more members. Instead of doing that, they would rather pay people like Lynn Schmitz real?, Toni Ciarcia, or Sharon to post reviews on the catacombs of the internet.
Yet YP does have a few advantages over match.com:
1. The first advantage is use of YIM on the YP website. If you're a paying member, you can just click on the smiley face next to the profile and send a message.
2. The next advantage is you can read emails and see who's sending you the email as a free member. I have 3 emails in my match.com mailbox and I have no intention of paying $35 to open them because, I don't know if it's worth it to view the emails.
3. YP is far cheaper than match.com. For example, YP is $25 for 1 month and match.com is $35 for 1 month. Match.com is more because of it's goodies such as it's Dr.Phil and style promotions. I recall the membership fess on match.com jumped up the second they singed Dr. Phil McGraw. However, If YP does make drastic improvements to it's site, the membership fees on YP will rise.
Yahoo Personals is more economical and the odd can be better for meeting someone depending on the situation. A woman can sign up to YP as a free member and use YIM if she really does want to meet someone, however her odds ate better if she pays the fees. The main reason for this is because the YP site is more workable than match.com.
Are you considering joing an Internet dating site? Do you want to know how to become a member to a dating site? Is Yahoo Personals or match.com right for me? Is online dating any good? Finding love online, is it possible? First, What you should do is sign up as a free member. Second, run a search and count up the members who interest you, if you can find more than several move to step 3. Third, pay the fee and then send only 1 email every 2 days. Many people pay the fees than burn themselves out by sending out as many emails as possible over a short span of time.
Like I said, I've studied internet dating for more than 3 years... it will be 4 in a couple of months. In this time, I've set up many profiles and metered results. I've helped a few people out with this. If you're serious about finding love online, using these sites, landing dates, then drop me a line at "x_12_12"... you should know where to address the message. If you're an employee of Yahoo who's serious about improving the site, you're welcome to contact me. If you're a spammer and you spam me I WILL turn you over to the U.S. government, and I know the correct departments of the gov to sent the spam.

After reading these reviews, I found it best to tell the truth about how Yahoo Personals works. The outcome of your Yahoo Personals experience will vary, based on your gender, looks, luck, and goal. I found that it's best to know the truth about a service before you purchase a premium membership from Yahoo.
If you're a decent looking women, then you should have no problem landing a few dates on Yahoo Personals. Provided that your goal is to date decent men and not something else. A woman who uses Yahoo Personals in hopes of finding some rich and attractive guy will have no luck. Also, women who use Yahoo Personals to just flirt and send emails to stroke their egos will tire of the site. If you don't come to Yahoo Personals with realistic expectation, then you'll be wasting your time and the time of the guys who email you.
Things aren't so rosy for men on Yahoo Personals, In fact they can be really bad for most men. There are more than twice as many men on Yahoo Personals as women... So the pickings are slim. Most of the emails men send to women are ignored for a variety of reasons. Many men who have used Yahoo Personals have been know to send a hundred of emails before he gets a response from a woman. The fact is there just aren't enough women to go around on Yahoo Personals or any Internet personals website. Some men do find dates on Yahoo Personals but it's a rare case that usually mixed with either luck or skill.
For anyone, Yahoo Personals won't work for you if you don't understand the basics of attracting people. If you choose to use this site you should have reasonable expectations on who you'll date, use proper grammer and correct spelling in your profile and emails, keep your personal problems to yourself, use quality profile pictures, be honest in your profile, and being serious about dating. Anyone who doesn't follow these guidelines of common sense (or at least the more serious parts) is meerly trolling Yahoo Personals, and it's always the trolls who ruin social interaction on the internet.

I really liked Yahoo Personals;found it very easy to use and the categories which I completed were very direct and helpful in choosing someone. It really helped me go through the parts I felt were important in a companion. Contact was very easy as well. I found the whole experience very enjoyable and fun to do and then of course, I met the man of my dreams. I would highly recommend this option to ones considering online dating.

My experience on the Yahoo Personals dating site was an awesome one; as I have met, and married, the exact kind of man I was hoping for!
My advice for internet dating is that first of all, you choose a reputable dating site; such as Yahoo Personals.
After that, be as honest as possible about yourself. Be somewhat cautious about whether the person you are connecting with is being totally honest about theirself, until you spend some time with that person.
Also, make it clear where you are coming from, and what sort of relationship you're interested in pursuing. If you're not feeling ready for a serious relationship, or if you are, make sure you are being totally upfront about it.
Keep an open mind...the guy or girl of your dreams may not have the color hair you were thinking, or be as tall, short, thin, big...(you get the idea).
Don't be liberal with your personal information.
If you feel you have really clicked with someone and are comfortable with it, talk on the phone.
If that goes well and you want to meet, be sure to drive your own vehicle, and meet at a public place.
If that goes well, eventually you can begin giving out more personal information, such as where you live. But take your time to get to know as much as possible about the person you are getting aquainted with. A good way to do that is to meet his or her friends, and family.
You may find some good friends, and/or possibly the love of your life!

When I decided to start dating again, first I tried to hang out where other singles were. Ok, clubs & bars but of course I don't think it's the place to meet "quality" singles. Then I placed an ad on a few sites including yahoo personals. I met a lot of people and had LOTS of first dates. I had LOTS of BAD first dates. I almost gave up and decided I was meant to be single. Then I decided I would make ONE last effort. I would put very specific search criteria & send an instant message to the first person that was online that met 100% of my criteria. I did that and at first, I didn't think he was my type. Ok, I thought he was probably looking for someone better than me. After all, I had dated quite a few losers and was losing hope. I went ahead and sent him an IM and we chatted all afternoon and met for dinner that night. We had so much in common and a year later, we became engaged. We were married six months ago and while neither of us is perfect, we are perfect for each other. I did meet a lot of guys that seemed bitter, angry, arrogant, shallow, desperate, & cheap. I think meeting people on yahoo personals was the best of all the services I used. Some were expensive and gave NO results.

Wow...hopefully the_wife_from 7th_h is not a Yahoo employee trying to boost the score. I'm not sure if that bigoted and close-minded diatribe is what Yahoo had in mind when they encouraged her to post.
As to my own review, I just want to preference by saying that I am not yet a paying customer. I thus mostly based my review on my initial impressions of the site and anecdotal experiences of friends. I do have several friends who have had varying levels of success with both Yahoo and Match. As Mike from Shoreline very insightfully pointed out, success stories are not one size fits all. I have a good friend who had fun meeting new people, even though she eventually met her current bf from another source. My aunt has been having a nice time boosting her confidence by getting back out there after her divorce. I do in fact know someone who married one of their Yahoo matches, but it's bound to happen once in awhile when two people who want the same thing get together for any reason. A close male friend of mine, unfortunately, had considerably less success. Although he did meet up with one or two people, he had considerable difficulty getting responses and was bombarded with Russian models/brides.
I do like the search features on Yahoo, and there seem to be a decent number of people pretty close to my town. As I have been doing some consumer research to choose the site that's right for me, I have often had to create a semi-profile to even explore the site. Several others like PerfectMatch and EHarmony proceeded to take my very vague, picture free, nonpaying profile and send it out to un-expecting paying members. This doesn't seem to be a problem I have come across with Yahoo.
All and all I have enjoyed this review site. I am currently deciding between Yahoo and Match. I really appreciate everyone's reviews for their informational and sometimes entertainment value!

Honestly... anything "Yahoo" has got to be good. I was reffered here by Yahoo and they wanted me to post something because Yahoo said that Christians had a lot of success on Yahoo Personals. With that said, I'd like to know why are are these libs and heavens here posting messages on this site? You know who you are! You're the ones bashing Yahoo Personals. Maybe if you Libs weren't using Yahoo Personals as a shameful way to fornicate, you'd have some success there. FYI... Yahoo Personals is a great place for Christians and REAL Americans (not you Canadian, Fornicating Libs) to meet and get married. A while back... Yahoo did a study on it's Personals site and the results said that only Christians found true love on the Personals. I'm like "Yippie" I know it always works for us true Americans.

IT WORKED FOR ME!!!!!!!!! At 48 yrs old I was cynical about EVERYTHING!! My friend put my pic on the free trial and dared me to complete the info and try it out....I did and here's the deal...FIRST OF ALL...Feel free to contact me if you don't think this is real!...what a crock for people to scream "fake"...you are probably the same guys who don't know when anyone "fakes" anything!.....Moving on, yes, I didn't have rosy, wonderful experiences with every guy...I had to contact Yahoo personals once cuz a guy put a naked pic on!! (and it wasn't even impressive)...some people put their high school photos on when they're 60!..However, I met tons of nice men to talk to and realized that the world wasn't as bad as I thought...then, one day in the "here's some people you might like" email, I got a profile that was like no other I have ever read. He was a widower, had a teenage son, and only lived about 50 miles away...I emailed him, he responded and before the day was over, he AND his kid, were in my hometown and we met....we married two months later and have been together almost 2 years. So NO, not everyone is going to find Mr or Ms Perfect..but you know, it gives you a chance to meet some really nice people and enhance your otherwise obviously dreary lives or we wouldn't be needing some help anyway..so....be smart, don't meet people alone, check them out....and be glad you're not having to die of second hand smoke in a bar looking for ANYBODY that might be remotely decent!!! HAVE FUN WITH THIS AND LIGHTEN UP..You could get lucky....LIKE ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After several years as a widow, and having met only men who insinuated a sexual relationship with no strings attached, I decided to try personals. I have met a fine man, a committed Christian like myself, and we have been seeing each other for three months. Our future together is not yet assured, as we are taking our time getting to know each other. It's great to go out with a man who treats me like a lady! That doesn't happen very much in today's society. Personals is certainly better than the bar for meeting people; however, the only thing that personals can do for you is provide a contact. You have to do the rest - make contacts, get to know the person, be observant of his character, discern whether you are really right for each other. If you are persistant in making contacts, it can work for you.

For many people, for any number of reasons, have difficulty meeting people to have romance with. In my case i just didn't feel like doing the bar scene any longer. Yahoo personals is a great way to meet people and make new friends and romances if you put in the effort and time needed. If you are serious about meeting someone you can. I have met several nice women on the personals and have made friends along the way. I finally found the woman I want to be with. It took a lot of patients and searching and also a lot of courage to follow through and make the effort to meet in person. I have been searching for over a year and now my search is over. Yahoo personals can work for anyone who is honest in their profiles and committed in the search. the more you put into it the more you get out of it. I give a rating of 3 stars for the simple fact that sometimes the searchs can give results outside the parameters set, which can be annoying.
