See the previous posting and read this "terms and conditions" line carefully...
"You assign to Us with full title guarantee all copyright in Your profile and your photographs. You waive absolutely any and all moral rights to be identified as author of Your profile and owner of Your photograph and any similar rights in any jurisdiction in the world."
Makes sense...

Final notes: -->look at the last login date and the last update. If they are within 4 weeks of each other, chances are much better that you're looking at a real profile. At least then, you can "say yes" on the click icon, and perhaps that person will "say yes" to your profile and you guys can spring for a membership to contact one another.
-->put something truly personal in your profile and look for something similar in the other person's profile. Much easier to separate real from fake.
-->Having said all that, I have yet to successfully encounter a real match thus far.

One poster here mentioned how creepy it was to get identically profiled 'matches' from totally different woment supposedly miles apart. Not only that, but with some weird errors in them.
My guess is that the site is loaded with pictures of beautiful girls with these generic profiles that somehow signed their pictures up for bait purposes in the small print.
The pattern I noticed is that the obviously attractive ones will have a profile that is virtually identical, down to height, weight, and other stats, to another clearly attractive girl. Their profiles were created within days of each other and they have 'logged in' within days of each other. ---PLEASE--- This borders on FRAUDULENT.
And here's another tactic that I haven't fully confirmed: they supposedly need to send you a "confirmation email". But consider that when you sign up, you already receive an email and can log in that way. Anyway, the "confirmation email" never hits your inbox, you contact customer support, but you CAN receive THEIR emails! Only now they want you to call them to fix the problem. My guess is that they use that opportunity to pitch you hard on the membership.
Final guess is that the key to finding real girls is to look for the seriously plain ones or the ones with obvious realism in their descriptions. BUT EVEN THEN, how can you get past their shady email and customer service report????

OK PEOPLE LISTEN UP, I am also on Jdate which is the same company that is owned by americansingles. While there are a lot of women that are not up to par in quality, there are also a lot of men in that criteria as well. I am a very good looking woman, in shape and very financially established. What I have found, that a lot of people are abusive, financially broke that want greener pastures from someone else because they screwed up their own life with the wrong spouse. They have a lot of anger, want to get me into bed too quick and use colorful words for not posting a picture. Now when I get all this, why would I want to post a picture let alone in the intrium trying to be careful who to send it to.... Also when I hear men complain about others, they end up controdicting themselves by repeating the same actions they complain that other people do. This to me is very nuts> very nuts>.

Site has some promising and fun features, such as the "click" feature, however, their database is absolutely full of out of date profiles, some five years old with no activity. Once you pay, you realize their is almost no one current to email and the few that are current are not members and can not respond. Not a well managed site, they need to clean up their data base and figure out how to allow a paying member to receive responses from "non-mmebers", which you can not tell. The only way I found out is I kept receiving winks from the same member but no repsons, then I found their email camoflouged in the profile and they responded. Sadly, when I asked for their photo, the contact stopped - guess they might not have been as advertised.

This sight is very similar to Match.com but the profiles are fewer and mostly stale. I quit after getting "matched" with too many ladies who hadn't been active in 2 or 3 years. You also can't tell who is not a member. As I understand it, non-members cannot send or receive email, so you waste your time writing them.
If you are female, this is a decent sight as the male-female ratio is heavily in your favor. Also, guys are used to "making the first move" so you'll get lots of emails right away. Guys get no emails unless they look like Tom Cruise. Don't bother claiming to be 6 feet tall, having a graduate degree and making lots of money. I really am all these things and it hasn't helped overcome my average looks.
On the other hand, I'm a 40 year old widower with an eight year old child. That may be a challenging demographic to match.
This edatereview site is excellent. I have learned plenty and had some great laughs.

A long, long, long time ago, American Singles used to be free. Their revenue came from donations. It was one of the better dating sites out there; where was a wide variety of high-quality profiles, and quite a few women contacted me first.
I decided to have another look at AS not too long ago. Ugh. Not only are you forced to pay to play -- about the same subscription price as with other online dating services, too -- but the quality of womem really leaves a lot to be desired. At least match.com has a good number of "girl next door" types; there's something for everyone, even if they don't write back. On AS, however, you'll be rejected by "whiskey tango" women. The selection if far more Springeresque: even in the big city that I live in, it seems like the majority of women on AS, to be polite, have a rural Southern or Appalachian feel about them. We're talking women in their mid-30s who are already grandmothers, biker chicks, Beanie Baby collectors, and other women what look as if they were ridden hard and put away wet. Why does AS appeal so much to them? Do they have AS kiosks at Trucksstops of America facilities and NASCAR tracks? Does Wal-Mart sell subscriptions?
The percentage of truly obese women is much higher on AS than on other online dating servies, and there's also a higher number of painfully bad, glurgy or generic profiles; "I'm looking for a white knight to sweep me off my feet", "I love to laugh!", "I work hard and play hard", "Love me, love my 12 cats!", and so on.
Feh. If you're a guy, stay away, unless you're homesick for eastern Kentucky.

Every inet dating site with which I've been a member receives three stars because they do their job, but the cost and billing is always an issue.
Each site has a unique culture, and it's futile to criticize the culture, like getting angry at the weather. Find your culture!
Critiques that describe billing problems, site issues, false postings are helpful.
My problem with American Singles was that the participants weren't what I was looking for, but that is not to say they aren't just what someone else wants.
Also helpful are the reviews that describe the types of men and women in the single world in general - incredibly entertaining! And right on target. My recent experience with inet dating includes a guy who started talking just after each bite of food which left the food falling out of his mouth (over and over). And what was that white stuff on his face? This is not even the worst story. Come on guys - get a comb! Take a shower!! Ask your mother for help in getting dressed, but PLEASE don't be angry when we cannot see you again because...well...I deleted the next line because I want to be compassionate and many single people are depressed. But if you are not prepared to socialize then maybe you should be in counseling rather than date sites.
Maybe there should be a site for depressed single people.
This review site is a great - write!

One more useless dating site. Women have to pay to respond to your emails. Or, if your lucky you can instant messenger them if they happen to be online.
One simple solution is to get in your contact information in your profile. This applies to both MEN and WOMEN. Read through the profiles and you will find this quite often. Learn what works and what does not. Note that they do NOT manually screen the "user names."
One day, after posting a free personal ad on craigslist.com I got a reply from a girl that sounded interesting. But guess what? She was a total fake, wanting you to go to an affiliate site of American Singles to get you to sign up and collect the commissions. This got me very angry, and I notified American Singles and got nothing but the run around.
I would stay away, far away from a company like this!

American Singles has a number of things going for it - lots of members, well laid out profiles, easy picture posting, good communications tools, and a professional way of dealing with their clients.
I don't know if it's a law that says every online dating service has to have one or two really dumb features, but they all seem to. American Singles doesn't let you know who is a member, and who is not (non-members can post profiles, but they can't respond to contacts). So the members can write messages to non-members all day long, and not have any idea why they are not getting responses! What a time waster! Further, that feature makes it look like there are a lot more women on the service than there really are - many (maybe most?) of the female profiles that come up in a search are "for display purposes only" - they can't respond to your contacts. Many of the female profiles were posted by people who haven't logged on for months or even years.
The information about what the members are looking for is somewhat unstructured, so you don't know if you are the right age, race, height, weight or religion for the person you are writing to, unless they happen to think to explicitly list those factors in their narratives.
As with all on-line dating services, when a new attractive lady joins, she is set upon like a pack of starving wolves after a scrap of meat. In my month of membership, I received very, very few useful contacts - well, okay, none. A lot of Russians and third-world ladies looking for a ticket to America contacted me with obvious "form letters," but nobody I was interested in did or could respond positively despite about 40 contacts I initiated.
My experience has been that about 90% of the action on these sites occurs in the first week, so I've taken to rotating from site to site on a monthly basis.
American Singles could be a terrific service if they would just:
-- Indicate who is a member, and who is not (or better yet...);
-- Only show member profiles, or give us the option to only see member profiles (maybe some people want to see profiles of people they can't communicate with, I don't know);
-- Purge profiles from those who have not logged on in some reasonable abount of time;
-- Include more specific profile information about what the clients are looking for, and;
-- Include a two-way match function like U-Date has.
