STAY AWAY FROM THIS SITE. They let scammers scam. They use model pics to lure you in. I was on this site for 6 months. I had several russian scammers try to take my money. The customer service couldn't give a rat's arse. One profile picture was a POSTER! Still they would not remove it. They shal take your money, scammers will take your money. When you find an actual girl she is usally a head case. BEWARE

Hello folks, 1 star is not justifiable, how about 000 stars. American Singles is simply just like all the rest, deceptive & fraudulent advertising! My goal here is to find support from other members and file a lawsuit against American Singles, I possess the funds to initially pay for all attorney fees. Those of you that wish to pursue with me in this action please respond to my e-mail address @ snoopers8@fuse.net. Their conviction for ripping us off should be of paramount importance because most of their members are inactive or simply do not exist. There will also be a monetary reward for those individuals who can provide info. re: the conviction of American Singles. Remember! You're giving away your hard earned $ in good faith and American Singles is "laughing all the way to the Bank". Please respond to snoopers8@fuse.net.

I would suggest anybody that has spent (wasted) money on dating sites to consider some of the real FREE dating sites where you can communicate both ways by receiving AND responding to emails. (it's the only ones I consider free, although some do offer some "paid" upgrades)
I have done a lot of research and have come up with three of my favorites. The only real issue is that they don’t have a large user base and it takes people to spread the word because of the low advertising budgets they have. But it's getting better.
The male to female ratios are about the same as "paid" sites so that's not an issue in my opinion. The 10:1 male to female ratios is a problem for men, FREE or not.
So here is the countdown:
www.plentyoffish.com
www.matchdoctor.com
www.itsjustcoffee.com
check it out, and good luck! Help them grow, tell all your paying friends on match, amsingles, jdate, eharmony etc..

Terrible site. $30 bucks a month - and no idea who has an acive account and who doesn't. Most profiles are non-active, and very few are paying members - so trying to meet a paying member of this community is like playing Russian Roulette.
The worst thing I found was in chat. They claim they have hundreds of thousands of members online at once - however, if you log into their stone age java chat system - at best you'll find 5 rooms with a combined total of maybe 10 people. There is tons of abuse - one of the mods or users decided he had it in for me and made it his mission to kick me out of the room, without provocation everytime I'd log in. This user/moderator even went as far as to interupt discussions I was having with other users to verbally absuive me and boot me. I threatened to file an official complain report to American Singles and he basicly laughed because, despite the fact you pay $30 dollars to access the chat rooms, and they allow absusive moderators run the rooms - they have no complaint form and emailed complaints will generate a generic "you'll have to call in person" email. If/when you call in person, demand a refund or for something to be done about the harassement - they freed you the same :we are not liable for what happends in the chat - and obviously, you only have access to the spefied rooms accessed on heir servers - so for $30 dollars a month I cant use live chat, and 98 of the users online are not members who can check emails or reply.
I'd have to say that I feel ripped off, above and beyond the fact no one could help me with my abuse/haraasement complaint.

There should be a ZERO star option, because that's what American Singles deserves. This site is horrible. I can't believe American Singles is even in business. Look, I was on this site 2 years ago and nothing has changed, except for the quality of the sites users. The top reason no-one should even try American Singles is the tons of fake profiles that litter the site. Most of the women on this site are either porn-peddelers or they are trying to get you to sign up for another dating service. If you list your income (and your income is at a comfortable level to raise a family on just your income alone) you will recieve emails from foreigners. Personally, the next time I have to look at a Phillipino I'm going to hurl. Top all these complaints off with the fact that American Singles raised the price of it's membership fees.
I'll just ask myself one question, why should I pay $30 a month for a dating service that's inferior to all the rest, has fake profiles, with poor customer service, no decent matches, poor matching tools, has a old page layout, and has a million of old profiles from 2001? Buying a membership on American singles is like paying $20k for a 1988 Ford Tarurus. If I want to spend $30 a month I'll just go to match, because they have more members and no ancient profiles. Or if I want to save a little money I'll just go to Yahoo Personals, they only charge $20 a month. Also, Yahoo has far more members than American Singles.
American Singles knows a fool and their money is soon parted. They just ask the fool to part with their money at their website.

American Singles is a total scam site. I'd give it zero stars if I could. Sure, you can join for free and even sent flirts for free. But if you do, I guarantee that you'll have a message in your mail box the very next day. Unfortunately, it will cost you at least $29.95 to read it, or even see who it's from. And guess what? It won't be from the person you contaced. You're only made to think that it is. It will be from someone in Russia, Romania, or some other eastern block sespool. Save your money. They're scumbags preying on the lonely and desperate.

A common trend with these sites is that they require you to pay before you can see who wrote to you. I can almost understand charging you to reply to someone, hell everyone wants to make money. But no way in hell am I going to pay just so I can see who flirted, winked, or emailed me. A problem I have in particular with American Singles is that there is no way you can see what characteristics someone is looking for. Why waste my time and money emailing someone who is looking for someone who is at least 6'2", when I am only 5'10"? Why waste time emailing someone who is looking for a white guy when I am black? Without having this information invailable, why should I take the chance of spending my money on them?

I was using the Canadian edition of AMERICAN SINGLES. I give my comments in two sections: first specifically on date.ca and second on internet dating in general.
COMMENTS ON AMERICAN SINGLES I found the interface of date.ca to be very neat and functional. The search criteria works well, unlike other sites. In my local area, I can find a fairly large quantity of profiles in my late twenties age group. In their appearance, the women are fairly spread out . The date.ca did something strange to my profile: on several times when I changed it, a few lines of text were erased after passing through the customer approval centre. I asked the service about this problem twice, but never got an answer.
COMMENTS ON ONLINE DATING IN GENERAL. I am dissapointed with online dating. My comments are biased according to my male gender, also according to the fact I got hurt and am trying to warn guys out there. I divide my response in four parts to illustrate why it's a real bad deal for "normal" friendly guys.
1. DON'T TAKE IT PERSONALLY. I am relieved to see other guys writing their negative comments because I was taking it personally. I got a very low response to the emails I sent. I had my profile reviewed by an internet dating advice guru for men. I bought his book and it helped improve my dating scene a lot, but I can't find a satisfactory relationship online. The profile has to be good, I have a Master degree, take dance classes and have a fairly positive chances getting phone numbers when I meet girls. On the internet, I seem to get almost no response.
2. BAD RATIOS. Most sites have a male to female MUCH above the 1:1 ratio, which makes the demand/ supply unreasonable. Want proof? Log on as a female, search for guys of an age group, count the reults. Do the same as a male. You can easily find at least a 2:1, more realistically an 8:1 ratio. Many female reviews here say they are bombarded with emails and winks. I totally believe them. When they meet with guys in person they are totally demanding and if they don't get what they want there are 10 other guys emailing them to choose from. To top it off, many of the guys are probably losers who hide behind a computer screen. You just have to realize that there are a lot of women out there that get quick ego boosts from all their attention. You should also compare internet dating to in person meeting where women rarely pursue guys, view it as not their job and play hard to get. Take a nice girl, put that little piece of arrogance and multiply that by 100 for the internet medium. Heck, take an ugly dumb girl with no self esteem and she becomes a princess. I know that there will be some female readers catching this and getting offended any many are nice out there, but be honest about the quick ego boost.
3. YOUR PROFILE IS IN COMPETITION WITH MANY ASOCIAL GUYS Some internet women openly say how bored they were of the previous guys they met right up front. There might be some truth in it, but I can't really know how all the other guys are like. Maybe a significant proportion of the guys are just non-social internet maniacs, but I can't know that. One woman I met in real life after a few emails and phone calls told me that the last person she met online and met in person proposed to her. Am I lumped into that category of losers? To be honest, I felt uneasy when she asked me why I tried an online dating site.
4. OBSESSIVE MSN CHATTY WOMEN Another woman I met in person after a few emails turned out to be a bit bland. After our meeting, we did an MSN chat and I told her that I didn't find the chemistry happening. She told me that she had ten chat friends. A few weeks later, she did an email to about 12 guys not realizing that all of us would see each other on the recipient lists. I saw that she logged in every single day that I have, meaning she probably did it every day. On many sites, I see the same profiles popping up every time when I do a sort according to last login dates and I think that there might be people out there with too much time on their hands.
5 THE QUALITY OF THE WOMEN ARE BETTER IN "REAL-LIFE" APPROACHES I really think that a guy should have his life on track and just do pass times where he can meet women in a more normal environment. Once you get past many internet women attitudes, you realize a lot of them have low self esteem, don't have friends, do drugs, or have some not normal component in their lives. There simply are a lot better women out there, you just have to find them. The best thing to do is to get experience with females friends of friends, or try to find women in clubs or places where you practice a hobby or sport.

Ty Edie, for your response to my call-out. Have you checkd the m/f ratio in your area? In some places the ratio varies. I like your first picture, the one of you wearing the white shirt, and the white bow in your hair.
HAHAHAHAHA...MATCH, I found a way around your stupid "NO PIC VIEWING RULE" Personally, I really don't give a damn about internet dating but I was using it to study internet users behavior. There are some things I wonder about in regards to people's online behavior and how it can confilct with the rules of society. I'm just going to list some things I found in my studies. No insults-No worries. Remember, not everyone is like this but I would say maybe 35% of the people on the net are like this.
1. People use online dating to find someone who's worth is uncommon. (Gold-Diggers and these guys looking for a Barbie doll). I feel this is a good constant between men and women.
2. People use the internet to stroke their ego. Usually, these are people with low self esteem. You'll find these people insulting others in chat rooms. Sometime they will use a site like match.com. Women who use match.com always ask questions to the men on match.com about the other women in the profile pics.
3. Hot women are being hit on the second the leave their house. Why would they be on any of these internet dating sites? If these hot-women want a rich man, they would hang out with rich people. Get out of the house friend.
4. People will pose as something they aren't. Most of the time it's a little white lie.
5. Some people are starved for attention and they can find attention on the net.
6. (relates to #4) The people who exchance a few emails but disappear from the site are usually hiding something from you.
7. The internet is a magnent for bored introverts.
8. The internet is a safe gateway for sexual-gratification and people like the soft-core appeal of internet dating.
9. I learned that a woman's sex drive is driven by desire and thought. Women sometimes look to the internet to find a man who can fill a fantasy role in her mind. This will explain women's demand for men being over 6' tall. Just so you women know, A man's sex drive is based on visuals. We like them pretty pictures.
10. You can't use body language while exchanging emails with a woman on these internet dating sites. Internet dating is like to blind people interacting from a 5' distance. No, it's worse. When you face to face with someone you can use voice tone.
11. The M-F ratio on these dating sites will always be lopsided. Men will always be the ones to initiate contact with women in the real world. After these guys have been rejected too many times by women, they will turn to online dating. However, women complain about not being able to find good men. This is why a person would think the net would be filled with women. Unfortunately, women are sexually-harassed on the internet.
12. Some older people want a younger person to make them feel young. (see #2).
13. Unhappy wives and husbands will turn to the net for a little fun.
14. Grammer and spelling svck.
15. The RNC outsources help from India to post pro-conservative information.
16. John Kerry lost the election fair and square. Need a reason for his loss? Bush kept Kerry's campaign on the defensive.
17. Size matters to the some who are on the internet.
18. See #3. Men treat hot women like goddesses and these hot women are bored of being worshipped. I know this!! When I have to get something from the office, I'll find 2 hot women working behind the desk. No pun intended.
19. Women feel like they are consumed by time. So, many women will not respond to your message. Ever notice that mostly young women speed on the open freeway. This is the time consumption thing in their heads.
20. If something doesn't work, then why keep trying it? The people who have 3yo match.com accounts don't know this. Maybe their should be a club for the long time match.com users.
21. ?????????????
I'm sure I forgot a few items for the list but I'm bored and hungry.
***With the free pic viewing you must enter a specific username to get the trick to work.***
1. Go to Truedater.com and view a match.com profile.
2. Click on "search link" on the webpage.
3. Enter desired username.
4. Don't ever go back the the website, just leave the site alone. Don't become a match-freak like the few others.
Truedater.com thanks the fine folks at match.com for sending members it's way.

I created a profile on here just out of curiousity. I think I went on here two years ago out of curiousity (again), but remembered, I got a good handful of responses.I wanted to see if AS was as bad,or better, than that worthless Match.com. The verdict is still out, but I smell a rat close by. Seriously, charging people just to read their email? That is just downright ludicrous! You have to subscribe to be able to read email (some of which,do doubt will be from a few pervs, and not worth an answer)?! To Mike from "Outer Space" (see the review column for True) no, I don't really consider myself a misandronist. I'm hurling insults at the pervs, philanderers, and social losers that give the rest of you a bad name. Rotten luck-you're telling me? The men on Match.com don't know their asses from a hole in the ground! I say this because with that lopsided 5:1 m/f ratio as per users, I shouldn't have any problem meeting a guy on there who is under 35 ,has a job, not married, and lives in my area code. You can find me on Match.com if you look up: sweetpotatoqu196. On AS and LavaLife: SweetPotatoQueen50
Ciao,Edie
