I have been with match.com for 2 months. I alternate between hating it and tolerating it. You get your hopes up, try to be a positive person and honorable, write a decent, sensible, grammatically correct/spelling correct/mechanically corrrect non-misleading and truthful profile but to what avail? I get maybe two emails per week and respond nominally to them (I have learned to be careful, not verbose, phrase words just so--as I am told this is what men expect--we cannot look or sound too eager) yet am congenial--because I am, but am tired of the (and girls, we all know the "He's just not that into you" verbage) vague responses and 'put off' till tomorrow crap. In fact, over half the time I think someone wrote their profile for them because the tone of the email (hurriedly expectant, curt...) is diametrically opposed to the tone of the profile. I usually have a "Holden Caulfield' moment: this guy is a phony. So, the site attracts a lot (3 out of 4) of phonies and I'm not and statistically I'm doomed. Guess I'll be checking out nunneries or the Peace Corps.
