I'm a generally optimistic person, but I agree with all the negative observations that crop up again and again in these reviews. However, I think that in a review forum like this, it is important to sort the gripes you have with a particular site from the comments about the members.

As for me, suffice to say that I have a very hard time convincing people why I've never been married. (A nosy older co-worker with whom I shared a room at a recent conference kept on observing me closely for three days, trying to figure this out, with not- so- subtle baits and outright questions. She all but asked "what's WRONG with you?" :) ) I'm what is considered great "wife" material - attractive and a curvy size 8, friendly, good cook, no substance abuse, healthy, emotionally stable, responsible, etc. (I'm also childless and have a somewhat flexible schedule.) Incredible as it may sound to many people, the simplest answer is the correct one here - I've never met a guy I've wanted to marry.

What am I looking for, one might ask. In my Match profile, I clearly stated what qualities I find fascinating in a man and included several clear photos of myself. It appeared that the vast majority of the guys who responded had either not read my profile information, or were arrogant (?) enough to think that the stated qualities were irrelevant. How difficult is it to find a smart, friendly, sane, Engineer type guy? (I'm in a scientific field and get on well with techie guys.) Most guys who contacted me were decades older than me (including a man who stated his age as 88), and subliterate. They also seemed to have given up on life, and appeared to want a woman to take care of them in their old age. My quest for a smart, vigorous, interesting guy with whom I could travel places and attend classical music concerts could not be further from the personalities that came through in their profiles.

Yes, Match cannot be held responsible for their members not reading profiles. But I wonder how difficult it would be to set up their system so that people who check certain boxes are by default blocked from contacting members who want to exclude from their searches, profiles with those traits.
