One of the many problems that I have with Yahoo or online dating (only did Yahoo) in general is the issue of weeding out profiles which in essence comes down to weeding out photos and basic stats on a person. I'll grant you that noone can really define who they are in a couple of sentences, but most people craft their profiles to either prey on women's vulnerabilities by using all the "right" words (you can see right through this) or are so vague that to gather any real meaning from their profile as to who they really are is like swimming in muck and mire. Even though I put in my "requirements", I still received tons of email from men significantly younger and others who were nowhere near my criteria (sorry I do have criteria). Also, I got really sick of the canned introductions and I ended up revising my profile saying thanks, but no thanks if you approach me this way. When I revised my profile, I got an email from Yahoo that goes into why these ICEBREAKERS work; well they never worked for me because if you are too shy or whatever to write your own words, I am just not into playing this sort of game. I found 90% of the men seriously lacking in social skills and many just in it for the chase. Yes, honesty and directness is a real issue. Are you men too scared to be yourselves or maybe you are still in search of that too. I also had ongoing emails with men who seemed terrified to ask me for my number or who used every sexual innuendo in the book. So, when I revised my profile I came on pretty strong about who I am and what is important to me because I would rather receive one quality email to every 50 going nowhere fast email. I am pretty certain that I have gone against every rule of online dating and that my profile is one strong turn off to most men. If I get one email based on my revised profile I will be surprised. But I do not have the time to play games and frankly if someone can't understand the subtext to my profile or is scared off than why waste time. It all comes out in the wash anyway. I will let my membership run its course as I continue to live my life.
