A Review of eHarmonyWrite your own review of eHarmony! Reviewed By: Orangina Location: SF Bay Area Sex: Male Rating: ***** Date: April 07, 2008 I've used EH on and off over the last 2 - 3 years and have mixed results. Sometimes, I get lucky and get a few dates and sometimes, I get nothing. I'm giving it 1 star primarily because of 2 reasons. 1. EH plants fake profiles. Why do I think this? At one time, I had a profile but wasn't a paying member. Then I received a request for communication from a match so I take a look at her profile. She seems nice and so I sign up and I reply. After that, nothing! OK, so I think time to move one since it's only the first message. A few months later, I receive a pop up window from EH asking me to rate that same match to see what I think about the compatibility! So that got me thinking...why did she initiate communication before I join and then not reply after and then I get this survey...smells fishy. EH has these fake profiles that send communications to non-paying members to entice them to join. That's my theory! 2. This happened recently when I decided to cancel my membership. EH has an auto renew system and there's no way to disable this feature. At the end of the your subscription, they won't even send you an email reminder about your subscription ending. Regardless, I call them to cancel and get a refund but customer support tells me, "Sorry, your membership will renew for another month and then be cancelled after that." I tell him that's BS since I don't need it for another month. Reply, "Other dating sites have the same policy and you had many chances to review the expiration date and cancel" I can't believe they can provide such terrible customer service. Even magazine subscriptions are easier to cancel and have better customer service. It's simply astounding that EH makes customers auto renew AND make it so difficult to cancel and get a refund. Someone needs to call them out! If you want to join or are already a member, be sure to mark the expiration date of your membership on calendar and cancel the day BEFORE. What's up with online dating sites? I'll admit, they do provide dating opportunities but their marketing, customer service, and tactics all seem to be extremely underhanded and unethical. Be warned. |
